The Warren Central Lady Vikes dodged the raindrops Tuesday, but ran right through Richland.

Kasy Cortezie went 4-for-5 with a triple, RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases to lead the Lady Vikes to a 14-4 rout of Richland in their home opener at Lucy Young Field.

Warren Central (2-1) had 16 hits, including 10 from Cortezie, Brooke Patterson and Katie Channell — the Nos. 1, 2 and 4 batters in the lineup.

Coco Fultz propped up the bottom of the order by reaching base twice, stealing three bases, driving in one run and scoring two.

Channell pitched six innings, allowed four hits and four runs, and struck out two.

WC scored in each of the first three innings to take a 7-2 lead and was never seriously threatened after that.

Cortezie tripled in a run in the fifth inning and then scored on a base hit by Channell to make it 9-2.

Megan Stewart added an RBI double in the fifth inning and Channell had a two-run single in the sixth.

Warren Central is scheduled to play its first division game of the season Thursday at Greenville, then will host the Lady Vikes Fast-Pitch Invitational Saturday at Bazinsky softball field.

Warren Central, St. Aloysius, Vicksburg, Pearl, Brookhaven, Terry, Loyd Star and Cathedral will participate in Saturday’s tournament.
