Lady Flashes win St. Andrew’s Invitational

St. Aloysius used some strong performances by a couple of seniors to win its first track meet of the season on Friday.

Maggie Waites cleared 11 feet in the pole vault, while Alyssa Engel won the long jump and 200 meters to give St. Al a team victory in the St. Andrew’s Invitational. The Lady Flashes outpointed Northwest Rankin 137-128.

Engel also finished second in the triple jump and was on the 4×400 meter relay team that finished third.

Madalyn Polk won both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs for St. Al, while Olivia Curtis (high jump) and Dede Apenyo (200 meters) contributed third-place performances.

St. Al’s 4×200 meter relay team of Mary Ranager, Apenyo, Laura Phillips and Mary Kalusche finished second.

St. Al’s next meet is March 21 at St. Stanislaus.
