Central Hinds rumbles Porters Chapel

Porters Chapel Academy got plenty of hits Monday night, but runs were a lot harder to come by.
Hunter Harvey and Josh Banes each had two hits and scored three runs, Brian King was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Central Hinds routed PCA 10-1 despite a solid hitting performance by the Eagles.
PCA had eight hits, but left 10 runners on base. It also committed five errors.
“We hit the ball well but couldn’t get anything to fall,” PCA coach Wade Patrick said. “We also hurt ourselves with a couple of errors that led to unearned runs.”
Central Hinds (6-7) blew the game open by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning and four more in the sixth.
Jackson Smith drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Zac Talley delivered an RBI single in the fifth. Peyton Banes’ two-run single keyed the sixth-inning rally.
Garrett Hutchins went 2-for-3 for PCA (0-4) and seven players had at least one hit. The lack of timely hitting, however, kept the team winless on the season. Zac Morgan’s RBI ground out in the fourth inning accounted for the Eagles’ only run.
“I actually feel OK,” Patrick said of his team’s rough start, which has been sandwiched around a half-dozen rainouts. “We have played good teams with good pitching, plus having played so sporadically. We are using these teams to get better against and hopefully help us in the long run.”
PCA will host the Jackson Victors, a home school team, tonight at 6. It’ll play another home game Friday night against Park Place.
