The country’s best junior college baseball team resides in Raymond.
Hinds Community College is ranked No. 1 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll, which was released Wednesday.
The Eagles had been ranked second since the preseason, but moved into the top spot on the strength of a hot start and a talented roster. Led by a dozen Division I signees, last year’s national runner-up has won 17 of its first 18 games this season.
Hinds swept a doubleheader from Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday, 7-6 and 8-3, and will play Saturday at Baton Rouge Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Former Warren Central star Hunter Bell had two hits in the 7-6 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Bell is one of five Warren County players on Hinds’ roster.
Catcher Hunter Austin (Warren Central), infielder Carlisle Koestler (Warren Central), catcher Joshua Sterling (Vicksburg High) and catcher Jonah Masterson (Porters Chapel Academy) are also on the team.
