Warren Central went deep into its rotation Friday night and pulled out a gem.

Seldom-used senior pitcher Tristan Lowry threw a perfect game in his first start of the season, and the Vikings finished a week of domination over Murrah with a 10-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Viking Field.

In the first game, Layne Tedder threw a three-inning no-hitter as the Vikings rolled 15-0.

Lowry had thrown just 1 2/3 innings this season, but shackled the overmatched Mustangs. He needed only 47 pitches to breeze through the five-inning, run-rule shortened game.

Lowry struck out three and faced a total of 12 batters.

“He threw really well. He located great, stayed down in the zone and competed,” Warren Central coach Conner Douglas said. “He’s coming from basketball, so we had to catch him up and get him in shape. I’m proud and happy for him. Throwing a perfect game is big stuff.”

The Vikings banged out 10 hits at the plate and scored in each of the first three innings to put it away early.

Marcus Ragan went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Josh Lieberman and Zach Cox drove in two runs apiece. Brooks Boolos and Logan Stewart each had two hits.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Cox went 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Vikings to a 15-0 victory.

Connor Wilkinson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored as WC scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and eight more in the second to blow it open.

On the mound, the Vikings got another no-hitter — this one was only three innings before the mercy rule kicked in — from Tedder.

The senior left-hander struck out six and walked none. Murrah had one batter reach on an error.

The lopsided sweep capped a dominating first week of division play for Warren Central (6-3, 3-0 Division 4-6A). It outscored Murrah 37-1 in three games to get a leg up in the race for the division title.

Next week will be tougher, though, with two games against the league’s other frontrunner Clinton.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way the guys are playing and coming together as a team,” Douglas said. “We’re starting to get that chemistry that great teams have. We’ve got to keep building on this week.”
