The rain will subside this week, but the river will continue to rise.

Warren County Emergency Management Agency Director John Elfer said the river will crest at 42.5 feet Saturday.

“That’s a half a foot below flood stage on the Vicksburg gage,” he said.

Elfer said this level in the river could lead to some light flooding on some roads including Ziegler Road, Chickasaw Road, Kings Point Road, Laney Camp Road, Alexander Road and Allen Station Road.

“I talked to the hydrologist and they’re not changing the forecast,” he said. “They don’t think the rain up there is going to significantly impact it.”

Vicksburg Police Department Chief Walter Armstrong they are keeping an eye out on the river to see what happens.

“There’s no mention of any flooding,” he said. “We’ll watch out for it.”

Armstrong said sometimes heavy rain will cause some of the streets to flood.

“We haven’t had to block off any of them as a result of the heavy rain,” he said. “I noticed we’re not scheduled to get a lot of rain this week, so that’s going to help us.”

Jackson National Weather Service Meteorologist Joanne Culin said the rain from this weekend will be moving out, and there should be several dry days this week.

“There’s not really a whole lot of rain until maybe Wednesday night or Thursday,” she said.

Culin said clouds are expected to for the beginning of the week

“We’re probably going to hold on to the clouds for a good portion of Monday but then clear a good bit of them out Monday night,” she said. “By Wednesday we should have a pretty sunny day.”

The temperature this week should be mild, Culin said.

“It will be pretty nice with 70s throughout the week and possibly getting up to the upper 70s in mid week,” she said. “We will have overnight lows in the 50s.”

Culin said to expect temperatures to cool as the week progresses.

“Highs on Friday looking to be about 60,” she said. “We may drop down to the upper 50s Saturday. Lows on Friday night will be in the upper 30s and 40s. It will be a brief cool down.”
