A late rally and an even later call gave Brandon a win over Warren Central on Thursday.
Brittney Triplett hustled home from second on a disputed play at first for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Brandon beat the Lady Vikes 7-6.
Brandon’s Aiden Nichols hit a ground ball and was safe at first on a bang-bang play. The field umpire was slow to make the call, and by the time WC infielder Kasy Cortezie saw the safe sign Triplett was heading toward the plate. Cortezie’s throw was late, and Brandon got the walk-off win.
“It was a close play, but I thought the girl was out. Which would have taken us to extra innings. But the call didn’t go our way,” Warren Central coach Dana McGivney said.
Brooke Patterson went 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored for Warren Central (10-3), which lost its second consecutive game.
Darby Gain had three hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Lady Vikes and Megan Stewart was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
