Warren Central’s tennis team took the weekend off from high school competition, yet still managed to reel in a plethora of victories.
The Vikings finished in the top three in nine of the 16 events they were entered in at The Club of Crossgates’ High School Cup tournament Saturday in Brandon.
The tournament featured high school players and teams, although they were representing themselves and not their schools.
Warren Central had two first-place finishers. George Wilkerson and Alex Velazquez won the 16-year-olds’ championship in boys doubles, while William Wooten teamed with Starkville Academy’s Will Christenson to win the 18-year-olds’ boys doubles title.
Wilkerson also finished third in singles.
Brent Styles was second in the 16-year-olds’ boys novice singles, and teamed with Blake Wilson to come in third in the main doubles draw.
Joseph Jabour was second in the 18-year-olds’ boys singles tournament and Matthew Register placed third. They then teamed up to finish second in the doubles competition.
In the 16-year-olds’ girls novice singles competition, Lauren Davis finished second.
