St. Aloysius is still in good shape to make the playoffs. It’ll just have to start at the bottom when it gets there.

Bogue Chitto scored twice in the top of the first inning, and pitcher Alana Nettles made it stand up by throwing a four-hit shutout as the Lady Bobcats beat St. Al 2-0 Wednesday at Bazinsky Park.

Bogue Chitto (9-6, 4-0 in division play) clinched at least the No. 2 seed in Division 7-1A, while St. Al (5-7-1, 0-4) needs to regroup fast to shore up a playoff berth.

St. Al needs to win at least one game — and stay ahead on run differential — when it hosts winless Mount Olive in a doubleheader today at 4 p.m. The Lady Flashes can’t do better than the No. 3 seed.

St. Al figures to be a feisty opponent come playoff time. Wednesday’s loss was its third within the division by three runs or less.

Bogue Chitto scored both of its runs in the first inning. Zariah Matthews drew a leadoff walk and wound up scoring on an an error. Christian Black then doubled to bring in Nettles, who had singled.

St. Al pitchers Stephanie Schoonover and Avery Parman kept Bogue Chitto in check after that, but didn’t get any run support. The Lady Flashes had four hits and only one runner got past second base.

Schoonover allowed the two runs, five hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. Parman worked the last 2 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and a walk, but no runs.
