Warren Central, St. Al claim region crowns

Warren County’s golf teams had a banner day on the links on Monday.

Karley Whittington shot a 76 at Clear Creek Golf Course to win medalist honors and lead Warren Central to the girls Class III, Region 3 team championship.

Whittington won by 33 strokes, and the Lady Vikes by 25 to win their sixth consecutive region title.

Meanwhile, at Louisville Country Club, Gabriel Riveros shot 73 to win medalist honors at the boys Region 3-1A tournament.

Riveros edged teammate Channing Curtis, who shot a 75 to tie for second place. St. Al, the four-time defending state champion, also won the team title.

Up next for both programs is the MHSAA state tournament.

Warren Central will host the girls Class III tournament May 4 and 5 at Clear Creek. St. Al will play the boys Class 1A tournament May 6 and 7 at Big Oaks in Tupelo.

St. Al’s girls will play in the Class I tournament May 4 and 5 at Natchez Trace Golf Club in Tupelo.
