A strong finishing kick by Sikes Orvis helped Ole Miss improve its standing in the Southeastern Conference, and also earned him Player of the Week honors.

The senior first baseman shared the SEC’s Player of the Week award with LSU’s Chris Chinea, the league office announced Sunday.

Orvis has hit seven home runs in the past seven games, and has three multi-homer games. He went 3-for-3 with two home runs and a career-high eight RBIs in a 17-3 rout of Arkansas State in a non-conference game last Tuesday.

Orvis also had a double and brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk in a 7-4 win over Texas A&M in Saturday’s regular-season finale.

Orvis leads Ole Miss with 17 doubles, 16 home runs and 53 RBIs this season. He ranks in the top five in the SEC in all three categories.

Ole Miss (30-25) has won six of its last seven games and will play Alabama (29-26) in the first round of the SEC Tournament Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Hoover, Ala.

Chinea, a junior first baseman, batted .412 (7-for-17) last week, with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs as the Tigers won two out of three games at South Carolina and beat New Orleans in a non-conference game.

Chinea has hit 11 home runs in the last 30 games, after hitting none in LSU’s first 25 games.

LSU (46-9) will play either Auburn or Kentucky in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.

Vanderbilt’s Carson Fulmer was the SEC’s Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game in a win over Alabama.

Fulmer became just the fourth pitcher in SEC history to lead the league in wins (11), ERA (1.51) and strikeouts (132), and the first to win the pitching triple crown since Tennessee’s Luke Hochevar in 2005. Fulmer is the only SEC pitcher this season with an ERA under 2.00.
