Three Flashes are All-State

One through nine this season, the St. Aloysius Flashes had a loaded lineup. It’s showing up in the postseason accolades being heaped upon the team.

Two juniors, infielder Lane Hynum and outfielder Will Pierce, were selected to the Class 1A All-State first team Wednesday in a vote of the state’s coaches.

A third player, senior outfielder Jacob Breeden, was selected second-team All-State.

In addition to the all-state selections, Pierce and senior outfielder Connor Smith were picked to play in the Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Game June 6 at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

Pierce, Hynum and Breeden all hit over .400 this season. Hynum led the team with a .446 average, Breeden was second at .413 and Pierce was third at .407. They also tied for the team lead with 33 hits apiece.

Pierce was the team’s top run producer. He hit the Flashes’ only home run of the season, drove in 29 runs and scored 22. He also developed into the top starting pitcher on the team.

Hynum was one of the most consistent hitters for the Flashes all season. He only struck out 10 times in 101 plate appearances, tied for the team lead with 28 runs scored, and led the team with six doubles.

Breeden was a late bloomer who became the team’s most dangerous hitter at the end of the season.

After hitting just .233 in his junior season, he raised his average 180 points in 2015.

Breeden finished his high school career on a 13-game hitting streak, and hit .571 (8-for-14) in four playoff games. He had seven multiple-hit games during his hitting streak.
