Doris Jean “Grandma” Davis departed this life on May 22, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 72 years old.

Services will be at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 6 to7 p.m. The repast will be held at the American Legion Hut.

Mrs. Davis was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and was active in the Women’s Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary Post 213.  She was known for her wit, hospitality, kindness and generosity to all those she encountered.

Mrs. Davis was employed with Kuhn State Hospital and the Vicksburg Medical Center as an operating room technician. She grew up in the St. Mary’s Catholic School System and was a graduate of the Rosa A. Temple Class of 1961.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt Daniels Sr. and Christene Peaches; grandmother, Beatrice Lyles; godparents, Josef and Velma Woodson; brother, Roosevelt Daniels Jr.; and grandson, Derrick Stamps.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Johnny Davis; children, Veljo Davis (Bobby) and Kourey Davis Sr., (Anesa), both of Vicksburg, Janice Young of Seattle, Denise Albino (Raymond) of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cynthia Mayfield Brown (Bill) and Kim Lane (Desmond), both of Vicksburg; daughter-granddaughter, Madison Wilson Davis of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Brandis Wilson, Ashley Torrence, Kourey Davis Jr., Demetria Bracey, Kourtney Davis, Lessie Lewis and Symone Stamps, all of Vicksburg; great-grandchildren, Kourey Davis III, Kayden Davis and Korbin Davis, all of Vicksburg; siblings, LaVonne Clark, Sara Cage and Emma Lewis (Raymond); godsister, Elayne W. Gamble (Charles); sisters-in-law, Virginia Wilson, Lonnie Harris and Elsie Lee Kimble all of Springfield, Ill., and Shirley Brown (Elastic) of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren, including the Lyles, Woodruff, Gordon, Myles, Daniels, Jackson, Bradford, Brown, Banks, Carter, Williams and Blackmore families.

Donations can be made to the Heart Association or Juvenile Diabetes Association in memory of Mrs. Davis.
