WC girls soccer tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity girls soccer team will be held June 16 and 17 on the practice field adjacent to Mississippi 27. Tryouts for seventh- and eighth-graders will be at 5:30 p.m. on June 16, and 9 a.m. on June 17. Tryouts for ninth- through 12th-grade players will be at 6:30 p.m. on June 16 and 10 a.m. on June 17.

A makeup day is scheduled for June 23 at 5:30 p.m., but is by appointment only.

Vicksburg tennis camp

The City of Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Deprtment is hosting a daily youth tennis camp this summer at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The camp is open to children between the ages of 6 and 18, and is for all skill levels. A session for beginner players will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. daily, and a session for advanced players each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. The camp will continue through July.

PCA football camp

Porters Chapel Academy will host a summer football camp on June 26, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at its football field. The camp is for children in grades 1-6, and the cost is $50. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt and lunch. Camp activities include team-building drills, individual position instruction, and skills competitions for linemen and skill position players.

Hopson football camp

Alcorn State University and head coach Jay Hopson will host two football camps for high school players this summer at Jack Spinks Stadium on the Lorman campus.

The first camp is scheduled for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $25, and players should bring tennis shoes, cleats, shorts and a T-shirt.

The second camp is scheduled for July 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. The cost is also $25, and players should bring tennis shoes, cleats, shorts and a T-shirt.

Warren Central baseball camp

The Warren Central baseball team will host its annual “Home of Champions” youth baseball camp June 15-18 at Viking Field. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day, and is for children in grades 1-8.

The cost of the camp is $100 per person, and registration is open until the start of the camp. Forms are available at Hobie’s Sports.

Clear Creek Ladies report

On May 30, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its monthly retirees’ scramble. The team of Theresa Ford, Cheri Williams, Brad Heisler, Jim Hines and John Loboda took top honors. Second place went to Mary Harmon, Christine Williams, Rodney McHann and Ron Pownell. Dinah Lazor, Linda McHann, Eddie Fowler and Dave Williams placed third.

Linda McHann made the women’s longest drive and Rodney McHann made the men’s longest drive. Closest to the pin awards went to Christine Williams and Brad Heisler.

VHS softball camp

The Vicksburg Gator Fast-pitch Softball Summer Camp is scheduled for June 20 at the Vicksburg High “Softball Swamp” field on Army Navy Drive. A camp for players in grades 1-3 will begin at 10 a.m., with registration at 9. Another camp for players in grades 3-6 will begin at noon, with registration at 11.

The camp instructors will be the Vicksburg High coaching staff and players. The cost is $15 per person.
