Former Vicksburg mayor Paul Winfield, who pleaded guilty in November 2013 to one count of bribery is working at the Jackson law office of Dennis Sweet, who represented him on the criminal charge.
Winfield answered a telephone call from a reporter from The Vicksburg Post, but declined to be interviewed. Information from the U.S. Bureau Prisons did not explain why Winfield was out of prison.
FBI agents arrested Winfield in February 2013 on an affidavit accusing him of accepting $7,000 from an informant to help the informant’s company get a pre-event disaster cleanup contract with the city. The contract was never awarded. He was sentenced Nov. 19, 2013, to 25 months in jail by U.S. District Judge David Bramlette.
