PEARL — Entering the final week of the first half of the season with nothing to play for but pride, the Mississippi Braves did little to break out of their doldrums.

Brent Suter allowed three hits and struck out five in six shutout innings, and three relievers finished up the gem as the Biloxi Shuckers beat the M-Braves 2-1 Monday night in the series finale at Trustmark Park.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for the M-Braves, and eighth in their last 10 games. They’ve been shut out three times in that span, and scored a total of 18 runs — half of them in two games.

They avoided another shutout by rallying for a run in the bottom of the ninth on Monday.

David Rohm drew a one-out walk, stole second, and scored on a double by Kevin Ahrens to cut Biloxi’s lead to 2-1. Pinch-runner Mallex Smith then stole third, but Emerson Landoni lined out softly to right to end the game.

Brandon Macias hit a solo home run in the third inning and Taylor Green had an RBI single in the ninth for Biloxi (40-24), which clinched the Southern League South Division first-half championship on Sunday.

The M-Braves (32-31) have today off, then begin a five-game series at Tennessee on Wednesday to end the first half of the season. The Southern League All-Star Game is June 23 in Montgomery, Ala.
