PEARL — During the hottest weekend of the summer so far, the Mississippi Braves have become the hottest team in the Southern League.
David Rohm singled in a pair of runs during a four-run fourth inning, Emerson Landoni went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and the M-Braves beat the Jacksonville Suns 5-3 Sunday in the finale of a five-game series.
Rohm went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Kevin Ahrens had three hits and a run scored for Mississippi.
The win was the fourth in a row for the M-Braves (14-9), and their eighth in 10 games. The surge has propelled them into first place in the Southern League South Division standings, a half-game ahead of Mobile (13-9). Pensacola (13-10) is one game back.
The M-Braves go on the road to Tennessee to play the Jackson Generals in a quick two-game series tonight and Tuesday, then return to Trustmark Park for another five-game series with Mobile beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m.
