Bail was set at $45,000 each for five suspects accused of a crime spree causing thousands of dollars in damages to businesses and vehicles.

Municipal Judge Toni Terrett set bail Tuesday for Damian Jones, 19, and four 18-year-olds, Qunicy Brown, Travious Jackson, Robert Devoils and Joques Pierce. All five are charged with three counts of felony malicious mischief.

“You will be held in the Warren County jail until you can post a bond or this case is resolved,” Terrett told each of the suspects.

All five suspects appeared shackled and handcuffed while wearing street clothes. All asked for court appointed attorneys.

Police received 37 reports of windows shot out of vehicles and businesses with a BB gun between July 12 and July 15, according to the arrest affidavits filed against each suspect.

“It was such a senseless crime,” Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.

The arrests were the results of tips from Crime Stoppers and community involvement, police have said.

“The community really stepped up to the plate on that and gave us good tips,” Armstrong said.

The three felony charges are aggregations of 24 malicious mischiefs reported July 13, eight reported July 15 and five reported July 12, 14 and 16, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

Estimated damages for July 12 are $5,000. An additional $3,000 in damages occurred July 13, and $1,800 in damages happened July 15, according to the affidavit.

“We still have people bringing in estimates on the damages to their vehicles and businesses,” Armstrong said.

In addition to the five adults, six juveniles were detained and charged with felony malicious mischief. The juveniles appeared in youth court Tuesday before Warren County Judge Johnny Price.

Under state law, youth court records are sealed, so details of the proceedings in most instances cannot be made public.

The group does not appear to be the group responsible for graffiti spray-painted in the Drummond street area earlier in July, Williams said.
