Little damage was reported in Vicksburg and Warren County after storms rolled through the area Tuesday.
Sheriff Martin Pace said the only report of damage in the county was a tree falling on a house near Bovina on Warriors Trail. John Elfer, director of emergency management, said no injuries were reported at the house and the damage was consistent with the possible rotation tracked by the National Weather Service that was headed towards the Edwards area.
The NWS will send a survey crew to the area between Edwards and Clinton to see if a tornado actually touched down, NWS meteorologist Greg Garrett said.
The Vicksburg Water Plant reported 2.95 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Elfer said there were no reports of flooding and as far as he knows all roads are open today.
There were sporadic power outages across the county with a few hundred people still being affected today. At the peak of the storm 2,200 Warren County Entergy customers were without power, Entergy customer service representative Sheila McKinnis said. Wednesday morning, 786 customers were still affected by outages.
The hardest hit areas, she said, were Highway 61 S, Warrenton, Jeff Davis and Yokena. McKinnis said extra help was in the area to help restore power, and they are still assessing the damage. At press time they did not have a timetable of how long it will take to restore power.
The Vicksburg Warren County Schools were all on schedule Wednesday morning. Superintendent Chad Shealy said a crew went out to check each school at 4:30 a.m. for damage. Elfer and Shealy spoke Wednesday morning and determined no damage was found and no delays were necessary.
“We’re business as usual,” Shealy said.
Garrett was not surprised with the severe weather outbreak because it is expected from year to year in November.
“This time of year is the secondary peak of severe weather,” Garrett said with the primary peak happening in April.
He said the next few days will be dry.
