Gifts, treats and Christmas music greeted shoppers on a warm, fall day in Vicksburg.

The eighth annual Holly Days Arts and Crafts Show took place Saturday in the auditorium of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center where about 600 people enjoyed a day of shopping and entertainment.

“It’s a beautiful day and people have come out,” said Nancy Bell, president of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation board of directors and Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation executive director. “As you can see we’re full of vendors.”

This year’s show featured 27 mostly local vendors who set up their merchandise around the historic auditorium.

Pam & Tam and Catering by Lordes, both of Vicksburg, supplied food options at their booths.

Owner of Catering by Lordes, Lou Brierley, said they went through a small mid-day slump but overall crowds were great just like the year before. This was not her first time having a booth at the show, and she was happy to see repeat customers.

“I’ve made a lot of sales,” Brierley said. “It’s fun.”

Crowds fluctuated throughout the day with a lot of the guests coming to watch the musicians, dancers and singers on stage while others were browsing the booths.

“The entertainment is nice,” shopper Sandy Miller said. “It’s nice that they do that too for the community.”

She had purchased some food items and was looking at beeswax candles Saturday.

“We always find unusual things here that you can’t find other places,” Miller said.

SCHF executive director Stacey Massey was thrilled with the number of people she saw walk through the doors and about the ideal weather outside. Seeing all the new vendors in attendance was an exciting part of the show for Massey, who herself was perusing the isles of vendors looking for gifts to purchase.

The Little Bee LLC and Fabs & More, both of Vicksburg, offered home and garden items at their booths. Judy Busby, owner of Fabs & More 1106 Washington St., had a booth for the first time this year and said she was staying busy making connections with new people.

“Making that contact they now can come to my shop and continue [supplying] their decorating needs,” Busby said.

Shopper Sharon Francingues said she likes coming to the show because she sees different items for sell from year to year.

“You never know what you might find here,” Francingues said. “Everybody has got something different, and I’ve seen some things this year that I haven’t seen in past years.”

She wasn’t shopping for anything in particular Saturday, but she was on the lookout for possible gifts.

“I just wanted to come and see what they had, and who knows, I might find something I can’t live without or that I can give to somebody,” Francingues said.
