Excited for Star Wars you are? You will be.

The long anticipated film will premiere in Vicksburg Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., B&B Theatres spokesperson Paul Farnsworth said.

“We are very excited about the holiday film slate and the options that it will present to our customers,” he said. “‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ certainly promises to be the movie of the season, and likely the year.”

Farnsworth said the movie has been anticipated for years.

“Episode One of Star Wars had a lot of buzz, but nothing compared to this one,” he said. “A follow-up film featuring the return of the original cast has people talking more than anything in recent memory.  The hype surrounding Avatar was similar in the sense that expectation and spectacle surrounding the presentation and technology was high, but Episode VII has the immense onscreen presence coupled with decades of dedicated fandom. It will be big.”

B&B Theatres Vicksburg Mall 6 manager Jami Chambers said there has been a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming film release.

“We’re expecting lots of business for Star Wars,” she said. “It’s a very big deal for us.”

Chambers said before December the theater had already sold as many as 100 tickets.

“We’re expecting a packed house or close to it because we’ve already sold a lot of tickets,” she said. “We’ve been making sales online and a lot of people have been making purchases as early as the beginning of November.”

Tickets are on sale now at bbtheatres.com.

Farnsworth said since acquiring the Vicksburg theater, B&B Theatres has implemented some of their programs Vicksburg residents who have not visited the theater may not be familiar with.

“Since our recent acquisition of the Vicksburg theater, we have implemented a new point-of-sale system and introduced our Backstage Pass loyalty program,” he said. “We are encouraged by our warm welcome into the community and look forward to continuing to improve the customer experience at our first Mississippi location.

Changes are coming soon, Farnsworth added.

“Our rollout schedule for updates and remodels isn’t finalized, but we have plans for the location in 2016.”
