A Warren County man accused of shooting another man during an altercation in Winston County last Friday was out on bail Thursday.
William Daniel Ettinger, 47, 910 Tucker Road, was arrested around 9 a.m. Jan. 1 and charged with aggravated assault and breaking and entering, Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh said.
Ettinger is accused of going to a home on the 200 block of Hayes Road in the High Point community of Louisville to collect a debit card and checkbook from the female resident, Pugh said. He said Ettinger had a prior relationship with the woman.
Ettinger then got into a scuffle with Derick Loving at the residence, Pugh said. He said both men had guns. Pugh said Loving claimed he fired a warning shot. Pugh said Ettinger claimed he returned fire because his back was turned to Loving and he thought Loving was firing at him.
“The incident is still under investigation,” Pugh said. “More charges could be filed.”
Pugh said Ettinger was not shot. Loving was shot in the stomach and was in stable condition at a Columbus hospital Monday, Pugh said.
“I don’t have an update on his condition. He had surgery, and I believe he is out of the ICU and in a room,” Pugh said.
Ettinger is scheduled to have a court appearance in Winston County at 1 p.m. Feb. 10, 2016.
“I expect this to go to grand jury in April,” Pugh said.
