James “June” Mayfield Jr.

Funeral services for James “June” Mayfield Jr. will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Spring Hill M. B. Church with the Rev. James Warren officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Mayfield died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

He was retired from the Waterways Experiment Station, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and member of the Springhill M. B. Church and the Tyner Ford Post 213 American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Estella Williams Mayfield Sr.; and  his wife, Alice Dotson Mayfield.

Survivors include five sons, Eddie Foster and James Mayfield III, of Vicksburg, Roosevelt Smith of Chicago, John Russell Mayfield of Burniville, Minn., and Kenneth Earl Mayfield of Vicksburg; seven daughters, Theresa Farrell of San Bernadino, Calif., Janice Mayfield of Jackson, S. Cherry Epps of Detroit, Jennifer Mayfield of Vicksburg, Francine Mayfield of Detroit, Lisa Mayfield of Detroit and Joyce Ann Mayfield of Vicksburg; his sister, Estella Mayfield Crawford of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, cousins and other relatives and friends.
