A 19-year-old man was shot Sunday night in a dispute at a car wash, police said.

At 9:15 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call around on the 2900 block of Clay Street in the vicinity of Hope Street, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“There was gunfire exchange between two subjects,” Williams said.

Jonathan Thomas, 19, no address given, was hit multiple times in his extremities,  both legs and in one arm, Williams said.

The second subject was not hit and neither has been charged, Williams said. Vicksburg police Chief Walter Armstrong said the two men knew each other, and the act was not random.

“They were in a dispute over property and a relationship,” Armstrong said.

He said the men should have called the police to settle their feud but instead took the law into their own hands.

“I’m glad no one was killed,” Armstrong said.

Thomas was transported by ambulance to Merit Health River Region Medical Center where he was treated and released, Williams said. No charges have been filed yet but are pending. “The incident is still under investigation,” Williams said. “Investigators are working on it as we speak.”
