For 37 years, since 1980, Run Thru History has been held rain or shine on the first Saturday in March, but this year, veterans to the race will notice a change.
Race Headquarters is now at Vicksburg Hampton Inn and Suites, 3330 Clay St. The hotel is partnering with the YMCA to help sponsor the race this year.
Hampton Inn general manager Michael Hudson said he and his staff are thrilled to be working with the YMCA for such a fun event.
“Phillip (Doiron), the director of the YMCA, and I have been good friends for many, many years, and he and I discussed it and talked about it, and came to a mutual agreement,” Hudson said.
The late registration — where competitors pick up their packets and shirts — will be at the Hampton Inn’s meeting room from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, and after the race, there will be an afterparty in the lot next to the hotel.
The event will feature awards, beer, hot dogs and a performance by The Chill, a local band.
Hudson said he’s hoping the event will attract even more people to the Hampton Inn, which is directly across the street from the Vicksburg National Military Park, the location of the race.
“We’ve already gotten quite a few reservations already, but I think we’re more excited really to partner with the YMCA for such a great event for the City of Vicksburg,” he said. “We’re just excited to be a part of that.”
Doiron said he’s excited about the new partnership and the transition of having the events at the hotel have been smooth.
“The hotel has been gracious in their dealings with us,” he said. “They’re an extraordinary partner to have, and we look forward to working with them.”
A special discounted accommodations package is available at the Vicksburg Hampton Inn for customers who mention Run Thru History.
