A man suspected of committing three armed robberies in Vicksburg and Warren County over the last two weekends was arrested Saturday.
Kevin Satterfield, 41, 2255 Freetown Road, Lot 5, was arrested around 11:45 a.m. Saturday and charged by the Vicksburg Police Department with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
“We made it a priority to stop this guy before he hurt some innocent person,” Vicksburg police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, an armed robbery report was made at the Texaco BG Jr., 4110 Clay St., Williams said. A second robbery was reported in the county Sunday, April 3, at Dollar General.
“We believed it was the same person responsible,” Williams said.
Satterfield was an early suspect in the robberies based on the similarities in the crimes, video surveillance and tips from the community.
“After the second one, we felt like there would be a third one,” Armstrong said.
A third armed robbery was reported, the second in the city, at 9:40 p.m. Friday night at Kangaroo Express, 574 U.S. 61 North.
Someone who knew Satterfield positively identified him Saturday morning leading to the arrest warrant the city and county obtained by working together.
“Based on facts and circumstances surrounding the arrest warrant it was enough to obtain a search warrant,” Williams said.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said officers recovered the weapon used and clothing worn in the robberies. Armstrong said a lot of evidence was gathered at Satterfield’s home Saturday morning.
“We expect Satterfield to appear in Municipal Court Monday before judge Toni Terrett,” Williams said.
After Satterfield appears in court for the city at 10 a.m. Monday, he will appear in Justice Court for the county Monday afternoon on one count of armed robbery, Pace said.
“The Vicksburg Police Department worked with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office from the very beginning to solve the case,” Pace said. “I believe it’s a solid case.”
Pace said Satterfield was also on probation for an out of state conviction and will be detained by the department of corrections.
“It was a collaborative effort between the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office to solve these crimes,” Williams said.
