The votes have been cast. The money has been counted and the pig has been kissed.
The Vicksburg Post’s circulation district manager Stacy Hartley received the most number of votes in the newspaper’s Relay for Life Fundraiser, which resulted in her placing a kiss on the snout of very adorable pig, Opie.
The fundraiser ended Thursday with Hartley receiving far and away the most of the 1,200 votes cast, resulting in her winning — or losing — the inaugural “Kiss the Pig” contest.
“I am thrilled with the response we received from the community with this promotion and also thrilled with the money, and awareness, we were able to raise for the Warren County Relay for Life,” Post publisher Tim Reeves said. Reeves received the second most number of votes, although a distant second.
The money will be presented to the Warren County Relay for Life during the campaign’s bank night later this week.
The newspaper’s Relay for Life team, which includes Hartley, Reeves and a dozen other employees from The Post, SpeediPrint and Signs First, will be among those taking part in Friday’s Relay for Life at Vicksburg High School. Overall, the campaign is seeking to raise nearly $70,000 to help fund research to ultimately defeat cancer.
“We might not be the team that raises the most money, but every dollar counts and it is our hope that the dollars we helped raise are the ones that finally puts an end to cancer,” Reeves said.
