“Warren Central High School lost an angel today but she is wrapped in God’s loving arms tonight,” Warren Central biology teacher Traci Esparza said learning of tragic death of 18-year-old and WCHS senior Alexxis Williams Tuesday afternoon.
Williams was a passenger in a car traveling east on Interstate 20 near Edwards when the car reportedly collided with another vehicle and then an 18-wheeler, Hinds County Corner Sharon Stewart said.
Williams was just days away from graduating with the rest of the Class of 2016.
“We are all saddened by this, and the Warren Central student body should probably do something to honor her,” senior class vice president Ja’Merica Dixon said. “We know how it feels to lose classmates, and it’s times like this we come together.”
Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Chad Shealy said grief counselors from Yazoo Mental Health and staff counselors will be on hand at Warren Central tomorrow to talk to students.
“Our hearts go out to the family on this tragic loss,” he said. “This is a tragedy at anytime, but right here, so close to graduation, just heightens the realization of this loss.”
Warren Central principal Eric Green said Alexxis, who worked in the front office and in the guidance department, was someone with a “wonderful personality and a beautiful smile.”
“She was always having a good time, always happy,” Green said. “She was a bright spot in our Viking family. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and our students at this time.”
Fellow senior Kievon Dee said Williams was a “sweet girl.”
“She always smiled and gave people hugs, and she loved taking pictures,” he said.
Dee said Williams worked at Sonic and had plans to attend Alcorn State University after graduation.
Graduation ceremonies for Warren Central High School are scheduled for Saturday, May 28.
