A Vicksburg man is wanted on a felony warrant for a shooting that occurred in town Sunday morning.

Melvin Harris, 22, has a felony warrant issued for him for aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the reported shooting, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“We have not determined the motive,” she said.

At 1:20 a.m. Sunday a shooting inside a vehicle on the 1500 block of Military Avenue was reported to police, Williams said. Darrow Allen, 48, was shot in the back as he was sitting in the vehicle and transferred to Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, she said. He is in serious condition.

“The case is still under investigation,” Williams said.

Harris has been added to the National Crime Information Center, a database of criminal justice information.
