A Warren County sheriff’s deputy walked away from a traffic accident with minor injuries Monday afternoon when a distracted driver hit his parked vehicle.

At 3:15 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputy A.J. Holliday was in his parked patrol vehicle on the shoulder of the westbound lane of Interstate 20 east of the Flowers exit when he was rear-ended, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Tim NcNair, 49, of Madison was driving the Chevrolet Tahoe that struck the sheriff’s cruiser in the rear of the driver’s side, said Cpl. Eric Henry, public affairs officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The Tahoe spun and overturned into a ditch, but McNair was not injured and refused treatment, Pace said.

He told officers he was distracted trying to pick up something he had dropped in the floorboard when the accident occurred, Henry said.

Holliday was taken to Merit Health River Region Medical Center to be examined as a precaution and released, Pace said.
