Sassy Seconds anyone?

The biannual consignment sale is setting up shop once again for their fall/winter event—but this year under new ownership and at a new location.

Sassy Seconds, formerly owned by Sarah Britton, is now under the leadership of the pair responsible for Munchkin Market out of Monroe, La., making Sassy Seconds’ upcoming sale India Gregg’s and Amie Smith’s first in Vicksburg.

“We want to continue to do it and to grow it,” Gregg said. “We want new people to come in and see what it’s all about. You can save tons.”

The Fall/Winter Sale will be Sept. 8 through 10 at River City Tumble and Cheer located at 1420 N. Washington St., and will feature discounted clothing items for infants through teenagers, Gregg said, estimating new and gently used items are a half to a third off regular retail prices.

“A lot of people don’t understand the concept, so if people would just come and see, they’d see how great it is,” she said.

Gregg explained about 100 consignors—though they hope to have more—will set up shop for the sale, price their own items at a discount and then sell all they can with an option for leftovers to be donated to those affected by flooding in Baton Rouge, La.

“(The price) is whatever the consignor decides, and there are usually a lot of things marked down,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for them to make money to buy new things. It’s also a form of recycling.”

The sale will also include maternity clothes, which is a change from what they do in Monroe, because they realized there aren’t many maternity options in town, she said.

“We’re hoping that would help a lot of people out,” she said.

She and Smith, who acquired the sale two weeks ago, never really considered expanding to Vicksburg, she said, but when the former owner made contact with them in July about the opportunity, they couldn’t turn it down.

“She wanted someone to take over, and we kind of know what to do. We have over 400 consignors at Munchkin Market,” she said of their Monroe-based venture that uses the same biannual consignment sale concept. “We had people ask about expanding (to places we thought were too far away), but Vicksburg is only an hour, so we decided we’re just going to try.”

Eventually, she said, the name would change, but they didn’t want to cause any confusion for September’s sale.

“We do want to change it to our brand, so we’ll eventually change the name,” she said.

Volunteers, teachers and new mothers or first-time grandparents have the opportunity at first dibs on items during a presale held from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 7. To register for an early entrance ticket, visit sassysecondsvicksburg.com.

The event will be open to the public Sept. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the half price sale, where items still not sold are further marked down, will be Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
