Investigators are still trying to piece together the details of a single-vehicle accident along Moseley Gap Road that claimed the life of a Vicksburg woman.
According to Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey, Katherine “Katy” Nicole Martin, 20, of Vicksburg was killed in the single-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday morning on Moseley Gap Road. The driver and another passenger in the car were injured and were transported to Merit Health River Region Medical Center with what was reported as non-life threatening injuries.
According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, the accident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“When deputies responded, they found the vehicle in the middle of the road, overturned and the victim beneath the car,” Pace said. “It appeared (Martin) had been ejected or partially ejected during the crash.”
Pace said the Vicksburg Fire Department and the Culkin Fire Department responded and used lifting equipment to remove Martin from beneath the car.
He said the car appeared to be traveling on Moseley Gap Road before losing control on a curve. The car, a 2011 Nissan Altima, then left the road, struck a tree and then rolled more than once before coming to rest in the middle of the road, Pace said.
He said the accident occurred on Moseley Gap Road, “right where the road turns to gravel.”
Curtis Lee Valentine, 20, the driver of the vehicle, and Kahlil Brown, 21, of Vicksburg were injured in the accident.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified by family members at a local funeral home.
“It took us some time to notify the family because she did not have any ID on her at the time,” Pace said. “She was positively identified at the funeral home by her mother and her father.”
The accident remains under investigation with the department’s Connie Rickets leading the investigation.
