Vicksburg police charged five adults and a juvenile in connection with an auto theft and multiple residential and auto burglaries reported between June and Dec. 13, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

The other five adults being held for questioning were released.

Leequin McCloud, 18, was arrested Dec. 13, on the 1700 block of Grove Street and charged with three counts of auto burglary and one count of auto theft, Williams said.

Jamie Everfield, 19, Travious Jackson, 19 and Damone Jones, 19, were arrested Dec. 13, on the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  All were charged with one count of residential burglary and one count of auto burglary, she said.

Demarcus Patton, 19, was also arrested Dec. 13 in the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and charged with one count of residential burglary, Williams said.

On Dec. 9, a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant was reported stolen from the Buck Street area. Later that night the vehicle was spotted broken down on the corner of Drummond and Division streets and blocking traffic. When officers responded, one person, later identified as McCloud, ran from the vehicle and the 15-year-old juvenile was his passenger, Williams said.

On Dec. 13, officers went to the 1700 block of Grove Street to arrest McCloud for auto theft when they found a cased rifle and shotgun that had been reported stolen earlier that morning, Williams said. The two weapons had been reported stolen from the 700 block of New Orleans Avenue, she said. McCloud’s other auto burglary charges stem from a burglary on Short Cherry Street and Marian Lane, Williams said.

The same day, officers responded to a call of shots fired on the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Williams said. Six people were taken into custody at the scene of the shots fired call, and four were charged, Williams said.

The four residential burglaries and two of the auto burglary charges stem from a Dec. 12 burglary of a home and a vehicle on the 100 block of Hullum Road, she said. A 40 caliber Smith and Wesson reported stolen from a vehicle on Nov. 15 was recovered at the scene of the shots fired call, which is the count of auto burglary Everfield is charged with, Williams said.

A number of other burglaries were reported between Dec. 9 and Dec. 13 in the vicinity of New Orleans Avenue, Chestnut Street and Marian Lane. So far, $10,000 worth of property has been recovered including seven televisions, a weed eater, a blower, a pair of waders and a laptop.

The burglaries are all still under investigation. Williams said the Criminal Investigations Division is looking to bring additional charges and arrests in the cases.
