In response to the widespread power outages in Vicksburg and surround areas, officials with the Vicksburg-Warren School District announced Sunday evening that all VWSD schools will be closed Monday.

Classes will resume as Tuesday.

According to school officials, several schools, and system facilities, remain without power and will not be restored until at least mid-day Monday.

“Several schools remain without power this evening impacting students and employees in both our North and South zones. Entergy has informed the District that power in some areas is not expected to be restored until mid-day on Monday,” the district said in a Sunday night release. “The widespread impact of the outage on students, teachers and staff has rendered operation of the district infeasible.”

The system is scheduled to dismiss for the Christmas and New Year holiday break Wednesday afternoon. At this time, school officials still expect Wednesday to be a partial day, with students dismissing after noon.
