Emergency officials are continuing to investigate a reported hit and run accident Thursday night that killed one person.

Mississippi Highway Patrol reports a pedestrian was struck and killed around 10:16 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 61 South near Jeff Davis Road.

Eric Henry, public affairs officer for the MHP, said officials responded to emergency calls, where they found a person lying in the middle of U.S. 61 South.

Henry said it was determined the person had been struck by a vehicle and that the vehicle had left the scene. Henry said there were were no witnesses to the accident. Officers do not have information on what type of vehicle hit the man.
