Hawkins United Methodist Church will be hosting a wide-ranging fundraiser April 1 to support local missions and ministries.
The fundraiser will feature a garage sale, a plant sale, a bake sale and a car wash.
The United Methodist Men will also be selling barbecue chicken lunches.
“We do these to support ministries and missions of the local church,” Bob Walters, the president of the United Methodist Men said. “They run from the Good Shepherd Community Center to several other local organizations that we try to support year-round.”
The men will begin cooking chicken at 5 a.m. Saturday and will have enough to serve 420 lunches. The plates will include a half chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, a roll, a piece of cake and a tea for $10.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., but the day’s festivities will start at 8 a.m. with the garage sale.
“There will be a gigantic garage sale and we will have on sale a lot of materials. Excluding, we will not have clothes and shoes this year,” Walters said.
You will also be able to purchase a wide variety of plants that have been donated by the parishioners of the church.
“We have a lot of gardeners in our church and when they do their spring-cleaning, they have a lot of bulbs and cutting that they start themselves,” Walters said of the plants.
The youth of the church will start washing cars at 10 a.m., and will have your car clean and waiting for you after you finish shopping and eating lunch.
“We will have a lot of activity going on that day where we can feed you, do most of your shopping and get your car washed,” Walters said.
