Vicksburg National Military Park will host three weeks of Junior Ranger camp this summer.
The first week will be a “Ranger-In-Training” camp for 13- to 16-year-olds. The second and third week of camp will be our traditional “Junior Ranger Summer Camp” for 8- to 12-year-olds. Camps are free but a limited number of spaces are available. Applications for camp are available online at www.nps.gov/vick/lean/kidsyouth/juniorranger-camps.htm and at the park Visitor Center. All applications will be due Monday, May 15 by 5 p.m.
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by Friday, May 19.
The Ranger-In-Training Camp is an extension of Junior Ranger Summer Camp for campers that have outgrown that program.
Ranger-In-Training Camp will immerse campers in the historical and natural resources of the park and the importance of volunteerism. After completing Ranger-In-Training Camp, students will come back and use what they’ve learned to help run either week of Junior Ranger Summer Camp.
Ranger-In-Training Camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Monday, June 5 through Friday, June 9. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Campers for “Ranger-In-Training” Camp will be selected based on their level of interest expressed in their application letters.
Junior Ranger Summer Camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon from Monday, June19 through Friday, June 23 and Monday, July 17 through Friday, July 21.
Junior Ranger Summer Camp applicants will be selected using a lottery system.
