Shirley Jean Brewer Thompson passed through the gates of heaven Saturday, May 27, 2017, in Vicksburg. She was 69.
She is survived by her sons, John Robert “Robby” Carr of Ridgeland and William Chadley “Chad” Carr (Elizabeth) of Canton; her beloved grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Will and Molly Carr; her sisters, Louise Ellis (George) of Huntsville, Ala., Mary Cleckler of Laurel and Alice Carnell of Vicksburg; sister-in-law, Anita Brewer of Bovina; brother-in-law, Harold Hancock (Glenda); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Thompson; her daughter, Allison Carr; her parents, George and Ruby Brewer; her brothers, Arnold and Johnny Brewer; and her sister, Katherine Hancock.
She was born June 15, 1947, in Steel Bayou to George and Ruby Brewer. She was the homecoming queen at Redwood High School. Shirley graduated from the inaugural class of Radiologic Technology at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1965 and enjoyed a 50-year career as a Radiologic Technologist in Jackson, Huntsville and Vicksburg.
She is remembered as full of love for the Lord, always encouraging to others and a person who steadfastly studied scripture. She was a dedicated Christian and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with a reception to follow.
The Rev. Billy Brumfield will officiate the ceremony.
