Leaders impressed with positive changes happening within our public schools

The Vicksburg Warren School District has hosted multiple important visitors recently as word of the progressive changes they are making under the direction of superintendent Chad Shealy spreads.

A couple weeks ago, U.S, Senator Roger Wicker toured multiple different schools along with his wife Gayle. What makes a tour through a VWSD school different is under Leader in Me, the tours are led by students who show off their schools.

Then, this week, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves stopped by Dana Road while in town and even took time out to read to second graders.

“It’s something I really enjoy doing because it gives me a great optimism to see how interested and intrigued these children are in the learning process, and of course this is a school district that is on the rise and is doing well and has great leadership, and you can just see the excitement in the teachers’ eyes and it’s fun for me to see,” Reeves said of visiting the school.

As VWSD continues to grow and look for new ways to impact the lives of students, these visits are incredibly important. The system has already received funding from the state to expand programs and introduce Leader in Me at additional schools. These visits show the decision makers the impact this funding is having and hopefully encourages them to want to invest more in the future of children in Warren County.

Addressing the Vicksburg Warren School District’s success, Reeves said, “I’m convinced the school districts that are well, make decisions on what is best for kids, whether it’s best for the adults or not.

“You go into a school district where you’re seeing them struggle, the leaders are making decisions based on what’s best for the adults, rather than best for the kids.”

The leaders of VWSD make every decision based on the positive impact it will have on children and we are proud to see their efforts recognized by state and national leaders.
