Gay Marie Strong

Gay Marie Strong died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Merit Health River Region.  She was 85. 

Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Mary Jo Cassino Strong and Richard Strong. 

Gay was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy in the class of 1949.

She retired from the U. S. Government Waterways Experiment Station with 30 years’ of service as chief of the logistics management office.

Gay was a lifelong communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she was active in the St. Paul Altar Society, the Bereavement Committee, Meals on Wheels and the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

She is survived by an aunt, Elena Cassino Estes of El Dorado, Ark., and numerous cousins.

A funeral Mass will be noon, Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Lalor, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 713 Crawford Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180 and to Vicksburg Catholic School, 1200 Hayes Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Gay’s caregivers at Merit Health River Region Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit and the ICU.

Pallbearers will be Bert Turcotte, Paul Garner, Andy Garner, Tim Turcotte, Greg Turcotte and Steve Turcotte. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lee Giffin and George Roesch.
