GLEN ALLAN — Bettye Middleton Sandifer, retired elementary educator and principal, passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, with her family at her side.
Bettye was born in Brookhaven on Feb. 8, 1930, to Jack and Lela Middleton. She was the oldest of their four children. She graduated from Greenville High School and Mississippi State Women’s College (MSCW) and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Mississippi.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents Jack Kenneth Middleton and Lela Allred Middleton and her sister, Jacqueline Middleton Madison.
Bettye is survived by her daughter, Lela Sandifer Perkins (Jack) of Madison, a brother Kenneth Middleton (Danette) of Glen Allan, a sister Angeline Windham of Mayersville, three grandchildren and their spouses, Rhett Perkins (Alison) of Indianapolis, In., Hayden Perkins (Jessica) of Oxford, and Jessica Perkins McCutchen (Mac) of Oxford. In addition, she is survived by her six great-grandchildren, Preston Perkins, Ashton Perkins, John Seton Perkins, Walker Perkins, Elizabeth Perkins and Anne Hayden Perkins, eight nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Preston Tyler Perkins, Ashton Wood Perkins, John Seton Perkins, Walker Jackson Perkins, Everett Jackson Perkins, Sr. (Jack) and William Marvin McCutchen, Jr. (Mac). Honorary pallbearers will be Everett Jackson Perkins, Jr. (Rhett) and Charles Hayden Perkins.
Graveside services will be held at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tony McDonald officiating. Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg has charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Catherine’s Village, 200 Dominican Drive, Madison, MS 39110 or to Kindred Hospice, 106 Riverside Drive, Flowood, MS 39232.
