Tom Louis III

Tom Louis III passed away at his home on Jan. 13, 2018, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was received into heaven by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by his loving wife Nancy Irene Dunn Louis.
A mass of Christian burial will be noon, Thursday at St. Peter’s Orthodox Church preceded by visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Tom was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Austin, Texas to Tom and Mary Louis. He grew up in Vicksburg, where he attended St. Aloysius High School. Upon graduation, Tom attended Millsaps College from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954. While at Millsaps, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Tom went on to attend medical school at Tulane University where he was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity.
Upon graduation from Tulane in 1957, Tom began a residency in New Orleans, La., at Charity Hospital serving as chief resident where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Tom and Nancy were married on January 18, 1958 at The Saint Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. Tom finished his residency in 1961 and the two moved to Biloxi, Keesler Air Force base, where Tom served as a doctor and earned the rank of Captain.
Upon discharge from the Air Force, Tom and Nancy moved to Jackson where he started his medical practice as an Otolaryngologist. Tom was passionate about the practice of medicine and remained so until Parkinson’s demanded that he retire. Tom was a well-respected physician in Jackson for many years. He served as the president of the Mississippi/Louisiana Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Association, and was a member of the Mississippi Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and The American Council of Otolaryngology. In 1975 he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Tom was a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. He was also a rock and steadfast companion to his only brother, Johnny Louis.
Tom is survived by his four loving children, Pam Wirtz (Roger), Tommy Louis (Addie), Cathy McCubbins (Wes) and Helen Summerford (Clay). He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Rachel Wirtz, Austin Crain, Lucie Louis, Alex Summerford, Louis Summerford and John Clayton Summerford; and his brother, Johnny Louis (Peggy) and his nephews, John Michael Louis (Alyssa), Chris Louis (Laura) and his niece Katherine Penton (Jody).
Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy in 2013.
