City and County officials are reporting streets and roads are beginning to develop patches of ice as falling temperatures begin to freeze snow and snowmelt areas.
“We have patches of ice on all the county roads and side streets, but none are covered with ice,” Warren County Emergency Management director John Elfer said. “Highway 3 and 465 have ice on them and (U.S) 61 North is pretty bad. I-20 has patches of ice; most of that is frozen snow.”
He said icing conditions are expected to get worse Tuesday night as temperatures drop to 14 degrees and the leftover snow and melted areas freeze.
In the city, North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield said section of Cherry Street was covered with ice and other streets are reported to have patches of ice.
“Right now the flat streets are OK and we’re not touching them. We are working on the hills. The streets like Mission 66 and Clay Street that are heavy traffic areas are still in good shape.”
