Vicksburg Main Street announced Friday morning that the downtown Mardi Gras parade scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. has been rescheduled due to the forecast calling for heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The parade will now be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. with line-up for participants starting on Belmont Street at 3:30 p.m.

” The krewes have worked hard on these floats, and they’ve put a lot of time and money into the floats,” Kim Hopkins, Main Street Executive Director, said. “But we are also considering the safety of the participants and the krewes and the people coming down to watch the parade.”

Main Street worked with Warren County emergency management director John Elfer before making the decision to reschedule the parade.

A release from Main Street said the only thing changing is the date and time, and “All line up information given to participants prior to rescheduling will be applicable. All line up areas assigned and location of line-up will be the same.”

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at Washington and Belmont streets and will travel north on Washington Street to Jackson Street.

The Carnaval De Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off, which was scheduled to follow the parade at 5 p.m. at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center, is still expected to continue with the events being moved inside.
