Johnnie McMullin

Johnnie McMullin, 92, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at The Nichols Center in Madison.

Visitation will be Friday, March 16, at noon at Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, formerly Green Acres Memorial Park.

Mrs. McMullin was the daughter of Robert Beasley and Rachel Annie Mae Beasley of Hazlehurst. After high school, Johnnie moved to Jackson and worked for the Bell Operating Company as a telephone operator. In 1947, Johnnie met James E. McMullin, and they were married in 1949 and moved to Vicksburg.

In Vicksburg, Mrs. McMullin worked at BellSouth as a telephone operator and then at the Waterways Experiment Station as chief operator from 1963 until 1973 when she retired. Mrs. McMullin was a longtime member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.

Johnnie was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a profound sense of humor but could also be feisty when needed. She claimed to be very independent as opposed to being hard-headed. She brought much joy to her family!

Mrs. McMullin was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, James; her sister, Opal and brother-in- law, D.W. Blakeney; her brother, Ray and sister-in-law, Myrtle Beasley; her sister-in-law, Ellen and husband, Charles Johnson; her brother-in-law, Joe and wife, Margaret McMullin.

She is survived by daughters, Lee Maxwell Jenkins and Sue Tyson; three granddaughters, Brittany Maxwell Giffin and husband, Dr. Paxton Giffin; Coty Maxwell and Jamie Lee Jenkins; grandson, Elby Tyson; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Scott McMullin, Paxton Giffin, Joe Moss, Max Maxwell, Jay Jenkins and Terry Mack.

Mrs. McMullin died as a result of traumatic brain injuries sustained in numerous falls.
