Mobile home fire under investigation

Children may have been responsible for a fire that destroyed a mobile home Wednesday night.
Vicksburg Fire chief Craig Danczyk said a call came out around 8:28 p.m. Wednesday of a mobile home on fire on Bayou Boulevard. The mobile home that burned was vacant with no utilities turned on, Danczyk said, and preliminary reports are that the fire was caused by children playing in the area.
“We had some information of possibly some malicious mischief by children,” Danczyk said. “It is spring break, kids are out of school and unfortunately, some times kids find unproductive things to do. There were some statements given to me at the scene that there was a report of children leaving the area of the mobile home and the fire appeared to have started from underneath the mobile home.”
The unit, which was about to remodeled, was a total loss, Danczyk said.
“PD arrived on scene first and we did have a mobile home on fire,” he said. “When our Engine 5 arrived on scene, it was fully engulfed. They began extinguishment efforts.
“The mobile home was basically a total loss. It was damaged quite a bit. It was planned to be remodeled so it was an older mobile home. It was not occupied so there was no family displaced from the incident.”
Danczyk said the fire remains under investigation to determine who may have been involved.
