She was born to Ben Ward Holmes and Christine Stuckey Holmes on Nov. 19, 1916, in Vaiden.
Growing up in Vaiden, Annice enjoyed participating in Girl Guides and playing piano. She remembered fondly the two summers she worked at the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, especially swimming the length of the lake on a dare.
After graduating from Vaiden High School, she attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, where she graduated with a degree in social studies. She taught junior high school for three years before attending secretarial school and going to work for the health department in Dallas, Texas, and later in Jackson.
She came to Vicksburg, to work for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers District Office.
After marrying Pinkney Edward Cunningham Jr., and having a son, Pinkney Edward Cunningham III, she took a brief break from working. When her son entered school, she went back to work at the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station, where she became executive secretary for the Mobility and Environmental Division. She thoroughly enjoyed her work until the digital age arrived, retiring shortly after her husband did.
She enjoyed participating in AAUW, Aldersgate Sunday School class at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, WSCS (UMW), the Vicksburg Book Club, the Women’s Auxiliary to the Corps of Engineers, a dance club, and several bridge clubs. She liked shopping and traveling and particularly enjoyed attending Spoletto in Charleston, S.C., for several years after she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Holmes Doyle, Lexington, Ky.; her son, Pinkney Cunningham (Pam), Savannah, Ga.; and daughter, Christine Cunningham, Glencoe, Ala. She is also survived by granddaughters, Meredith and Allison; great-granddaughter, Hannah; and various nieces and nephews.
