Culkin Water District has issued its third boil water notice in less than a week, impacting approximately 300 customers.
CWD officials issued a boil water alert Tuesday afternoon for customers who get their drinking water from 8235-12030 Freetown Road, 1567-2440 Birdsong Road, 72-500 Youngton Road, Venable Lane, Freeman Lane, Loredo Drive, Henry Lake Road, Walton Lane, Stockton Drive, Pennebaker Road, Nelson Road, Old Pettway Road and Willie Lane. This alert will affect more than 140 households.
Friday, CWD officials issued a boil water alert for customers who get their drinking water from 7560 to 11746 Oak Ridge Road, Smithhart Road, Oletha Driver, Dillon Ridge Road, Sonny Ford Road, Rawhide Road, Southern Road and Ward Road. This alert is expected to affect 129-plus households.
Earlier Friday, CWD issued a boil water notice all customers who get their drinking water from the 5000 block to the 13000 block of Youngton Road, including Henry Jones Road and Hannah Road, located in Warren County. This should affect 23-plus households.
Kadie Hearn, spokesperson for Culkin Water District, said this precautionary action was necessary because the water system lost pressure due to a break in the water line.
“When a water distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the system,” Hearn said. “Public health officials consider any system that has los pressure contaminated until tests of the water prove otherwise.”
Hearn said that as soon as pressure is restored to those customers affected, water system officials will begin collecting samples for testing and recommend that consumers vigorously boil their water for two minutes before it is consumed or use an alternate source for drinking and cooking.
