A Vicksburg man was killed Saturday night while participating an apparent attempted home invasion at a house in the 3100 block of Valley Street, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

Deangelo Eli Fields, 21, was declared dead at the scene by deputy Warren County coroner Kelda Bailess. His body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Edwards said police responding to a call of a possible home invasion about 10 p.m. Saturday arrived to find Fields lying in the street with a gunshot wound. The homeowner said several men were trying to break into his house when Fields was shot.

Edwards said investigators are not sure who fired the shot that killed Fields, adding Fields was one of three men trying to break into the home.

Fields was out of jail on bond on a charge of accessory after the fact to capital murder for trying to sell a 9 mm handgun believed to have been used in the June 29, 2017, shooting death of Addison White III.

Edwards said no arrests in the home invasion have been made and it remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on Fields’ death can call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-tips (8477) or logon to p3tips.com or www.centralmscrimestoppers.com.
