Gary David Lundin passed away from this Earth and into the arms of Jesus on May 26, 2018.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean. His marriage to his soul mate lasted 55 years.

Family members who also preceded him in death were his cherished youngest son, Christopher Gary Lundin; his parents, Edward and Eleanore Lundin; and his oldest brother, Howard Lundin.

Gary is survived by three children, David Gregory Lundin (Suzy), Nancy Marie Lundin and Cathy Lundin Niemeyer, along with his only grandchild, Catherine Elise Niemeyer.

Additionally, Gary leaves behind two sisters, Marcia Lundin Cornelia and Ruth Lundin Johnson; and two brothers, Don Lundin and Keith Lundin; along with many Lundin nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his two lifelong best friends, Jim Foxx and Ed Rousseau.

Gary’s closest companion, his dog Brodie, will be well cared for and loved according to his wishes.

Gary was born in Iron River, Mich., on Dec. 21, 1933. After graduating from high school, he attended Michigan Technological University. While there, he set many records running track and was captain of the winning basketball team. Gary was an active member and president of his fraternity, Kappa Delta Psi. He graduated from the university with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He loved attending Tech reunions and was active in the alumni organization.

Gary served two years in the army following graduation. He then worked for American Can Paper, Southbridge Plastics, Weyerhaeuser Paper and was an engineering consultant in many areas of the United States as well as in Japan, Sweden and Canada.

Gary and Jean raised their four children in Meridian, Corinth, Clinton and Brookhaven. They both loved to travel and were well known for rescuing and raising more than 35 dogs over 55 years.

Their current dog, Brodie, is a fine and beloved example of these rescues.

They were an extremely active couple and lived in Meridian, Corinth, Clinton, Brookhaven and Columbus in Miss. They also lived in Florence, Ala., and finally in Brentwood (Nashville), Tenn.

Gary was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Nashville and the Brentwood YMCA. He enjoyed being with the members of both of these organizations. He loved horses, dogs and time with his family.

Gary was a man of perseverance and hard work. Beyond that, his view on our time on Earth was not to worry, but to be patient and to live a full and happy life. He was so proud of his Swedish heritage claiming that it gave him a healthy body, mind and heart.

Gary had a passion for thoroughbred horse racing. The highest compliment he could give anyone was “Very, very good!” so we say, “Very, very good, Gary!”

Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg will be handling the arrangements and graveside service for the immediate family. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Michigan Technological University’s scholarship program in Houghton, MI, Alaqua Animal Rescue, (horse and dog rescue in Freeport, Fla.), Shoals PAWS in Florence, Ala. or the Chicagoland Eskie Rescue.
